Alopecia Areata Causes

Alopecia areata can be one of the cause for hair loss or even bald, this disease can happened when a person immune system are not working well, instead of protect the body from bacterial and virus, the immune will attacked the hair follicles (the root of the hair), and this can make your hair loss and even got bald.

Typical of Alopecia areata at beginning stage will cause the hair loss in a small and round size at several places at the head, and if not threat correctly can cause hair loss (alopecia areata totalis) or the worst it can make you loss all hair on the body (alopecia areata universalis).

The Root Cause

The immune cell are the cause of this incident where the white blood (immune system) will attack the hair follicles. Affected area will have major problem to reproduce new hair, based on the research this happening because there’s a changes in hair follicles, it can happened because virus, environment, chemicals, and some other triggers.

But in the good side the immune not attacking the stem cell which producing new cell for follicle so there’s possibly the hair can grow back. Even without proper treatment the patient will have chance to grow back the hair, but because they do not treat the disease it will fall again.

In several case Alopecia areata disease are connected in close family, if you happened have someone in your household who have this disease, there’s high possibility for another people in the house will have the same disease and Alopecia areata can also inherited to your children, but there’s no correct count the percentages for children to inherit this disease.

Usually this disease will attacked a person who has another autoimmune disease like diabetes type 1, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, and pernicious anemia or Addison disease.  

Alopecia Areata Treatment

Actually there’s no specific medicine to treat this disease, but in society people has claim they find the way to grow hair back or suppress the immune aggressive stance. Below are some of the medications for promote hair growth but please remember that these medications are not mean to be cure the disease. It’s highly recommended for contact your doctor before using any of this medication above.

Corticosteroids, these drugs have similar effects as hormone cortisol produced in human body which can suppress immune system, that’s why some people using it for treating alopecia areata, people using it in several way like consumed it orally, as an ointment or direct injection with needle:

Direct Injection

Corticosteroids are injected directly to hairless area (head and sometimes beards area), with using only a small dosage of this serum will increase a hair growth on most people.

Oral Consumption

Consume corticosteroids by oral or mouth can be effective way to spread the serum to all over the place in your body to mainstay the body autoimmune, even there’s some side effect with eat or drink corticosteroids serum like hypertension, weight gain, osteoporosis and the worst are cataracts, that’s why people consume this way for occasionally only and not for long time run.

Ointment

Corticosteroids can be used as ointment, it directly applied to the area, for some people this are their best choice because it has no pain compare with injection but this method are less effective than injection or oral.

Alternative Therapies

For some people who feel the drugs cannot help them with the disease, most of them will change their options to alternative remedies for alopecia areata like using acupuncture, using aromatherapy, some natural oil, using mineral (zinc etc.) and using vitamins supplements. But please remember to discuss with your doctor when you decide on using which therapy for your disease because there’s still no guarantee about the efficiency and effectiveness
